Mondloch Place, Fairfax County’s newest affordable housing property, was built in the footprint of a former homeless shelter. Mondloch Place located in Fairfax County, offers 20 fully furnished efficiency rental units with onsite supportive services to formerly homeless individuals. The building is owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) and is operated by the Fairfax County Office to Prevent and End Homelessness (OPEH) and New Hope Housing, a non-profit affordable housing and support services provider. Constructed under existing zoning, the facility was renovated under the leadership of the FCRHA utilizing a combination of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), CDBG-Recovery Program, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and Economic Development Initiative resources, in addition to a small amount from Fairfax County’s Housing Trust Fund. The project was able to succeed through the pooling of these resources creating a total project budget of approximately $3.7 million. Mondloch Place was completed on September 28, 2013, and serves as a critical component of Fairfax County’s Housing Blueprint and the Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness within ten years.
