The County of San Diego Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (OMVA) connects active duty military, veterans and their families with federal, state and local agency benefit programs. In an effort to make this process more convenient, OMVA had a vision of a one-stop shop resource center for military and veterans services. That vision became a reality when two Military & Veterans Resource Centers (MVRC) opened within the County in the last two years. These innovative, one-stop shop MVRCs provide office space and administrative support to a wide range of veteran support non-profit organizations. These organizations are co-located with OMVA accredited Veteran Service Representatives and support staff. Veteran services within the MVRC include benefits counseling, employment, housing, transitional services, finance, legal and hospice care, and caregiving. The MVRC is co-located within a Health and Human Services Agency Live Well Center so the Countyâs social services are readily available to the veteran within the same facility. This type of innovative one-stop shop for military and veteran support services is the first of its kind in California. The Countyâs MVRCs have been recognized nationally for providing the best possible support and services to the military and veteran community. This program aligns with Live Well San Diego, the County of San Diegoâs vision for a region where every resident is healthy, safe and thriving.
