Over the course of the last five years, pump tracks have quickly become the hottest thing to sweep the mountain biking community because they're fun and they make great training platforms for riders of all styles and skill levels. this year, Maricopa County mountain bikers celebrated the opening of the State's first public pump track at McDowell Mountain regional Park. Thanks to 86-yeards of dirt left behind from an event hosted at the park earlier in the year, park staff was able to fashion a mud pit into a longtime dream come true for local riders that were clamoring for a feature that was different from the usual train-riding experience. What exactly is a pump track? A pump track is a continuous loop that contains a serious of berms, rollers, and tabletops which, if designed correctly, allow riders to maneuver the course without pedaling. Forward momentum is maintained by "pumping" the bike through the roller sections. The best thing about a pump track is that anyone that can ride a bike can join in on the fun, they provide a rigorous workout and they bring people together while building skills.
