As part of building an enterprise level Geographic Information System (GIS), Roanoke County developed a new “one-stop” online portal Maps and Apps Gallery to host a new generation of GIS applications that allow greater and easier access to the County’s mapping, tax parcel, zoning, public safety and economic development and government services data. The Maps and Apps Gallery collects Roanoke County’s intuitive, single focused applications into one convenient portal for staff and citizens alike. The Maps and Apps Gallery was developed with an emphasis on being user-friendly and intuitive to promote citizen engagement, increase transparency and help foster informed decision making. The Maps and Apps Gallery was developed from the ground up with mobile accessibility in mind, allowing access to information from most any device, at any location, at any time. Finally, the Maps and Apps Gallery was developed using modern technology that enables in-house staff to maintain the gallery template in the future.
