About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2018

County of San Luis Obispo residents, visitors, well drillers, mosquito surveillance contractors, and County staff have benefited from the development of six (6) innovative Geographic Information System (GIS) mobile-friendly map viewers by the Environmental Health Services (EHS) Division. The viewers provide better access to information on environmental health inspections, including but not limited to locations of retail food facilities and inspection results; mapping tools for County well drillers; water well information for County staff; mosquito surveillance results; aerial imagery and other information for County contractors conducting mosquito surveillance; and beach water quality testing results. Before developing the viewers, input was obtained from stakeholders such as well drillers, members of the public, mosquito surveillance contractors, and County staff. The viewers offer access to information not only for public consumption, but they also provide tools for use by well drillers to improve compliance, mosquito surveillance contractors to better identify and target problem areas, and County staff in multiple departments to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations and policy making decisions.
