Year: 2014

As a commitment "To Be Responsible Protectors ofThe Environment" to coincide with Goal 7 of the County Strategic Plan, Fleet Management Division identified our waste streams in an endeavor to mitigate the negative impact of these wastes; we track and make a conscious effort to reduce our environmental footprint. Due to the nature of our business there are three wastes streams that are inevitable: used oil, used tires, and scrap metal. Our program goal is to reduce the impact of these three wastes by managing, tracking, and recycling. The environmental impact of the identified wastes could be detrimental if not managed properly. Used motor oil is a very dangerous polluting product. Used tires can impact our environment by becoming breeding areas for mosquitos and the contamination to soil and aquatic life from water run-off. Scrap metal is a waste to us but to other entities can be processed into new useful products. This process allows us to save our department money and reduces the environmental impacts. We have a program for each of these wastes that we manage and track on a daily basis.
