About the Program

Category: Libraries (Best in Category)

Year: 2014

The MakerSpace at the Johnson County Library is a place anyone can go to learn new skills and software, make cool stuff and customize their world. People use the space to play, tinker and experiment with media, design and electronics in an open and collaborative environment. There are no age limits; A 10 year old can teach classes and a 70 year old can play with toys. This is DIY learning at its best. It has been used for filming videos for businesses and websites, building a blog, prototyping inventions, recording readings and messages to far away family and friends, recording music, learning to code, sewing, creating business cards and fliers, and even creating a prosthetic hand for a child born with only one thumb! In April of 2013, the MakerSpace was unveiled. In it, we provide software and tools that people may not have regular access to and a place where they can come to use them.
