Catawba County has a longstanding successful recycling and waste reduction program. Many dedicated citizens, businesses, schools and municipal partnerships embrace the County’s single stream recycling program, which was implemented in 2014 and continues to grow. As with any single stream program, contamination is an issue. Catawba County created the “Make Your Recycling Efforts Count!” social media video campaign to educate and remind the County’s already enthusiastic recyclers about how to lessen contamination of their own recycling efforts. The campaign generated strong community engagement and was not only informative and educational, but also fun, positive and memorable.
