About the Program

Category: Civic Education and Public Information (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

As a local government organization it has always been a challenge to communicate all of our services to all of our citizens. Even more challenging than civic engagement, is our ability to communicate to other County employees our services and why we provide them. In our attempt to tell our story and promote customer service excellence in our employees, it was critical that each department convey in a detailed manner who they are, so when the project was finished, we could convey who we are as a County. In order to do so, each of our employees had to understand where we came from and why we were created. When our Department Directors were challenged to find a solution to this issue they agreed that in order to do so we had to focus on three major parts: our history, our services, and our staff. After much discussion, creative thinking, and collaboration, the Legacy Project was born. The Legacy Project had four measurable results: • Memorializing the history of the County (back to Territorial days) • Creating a legacy that future employees can continue to promote • Instilling pride in our employees • Charting a vision for the County’s future Throughout the process everyone involved gained an incredible amount of knowledge. It was amazing to see how we went from the Wild Wild West, to using some of the best technology in the nation to serve our citizens in more effective and efficient ways. Learning where we came from gave employees a sense of pride in the County as it is their place of employment and their home.
