The County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health (DPH) California Children’s Services (CCS) Program provides medical and financial case management services to eligible children and young adults to the age of 21 who have physical disabilities. CCS performs medical, residential, and financial eligibility determinations; provides nursing case management to coordinate optimum care; provides authorizations for medical care by approved medical providers; processes medical claims; and provides direct occupational and physical therapy services. CCS receives and internally generates large quantities of paper documentation daily. CCS has implemented an Electronic Content Management (ECM) system called Laserfiche to electronically manage, update and track all patient records and to better serve patients by improving efficiencies and reducing customer wait time. The automated filing system indexes document data, which means staff is no longer required to spend time filing or searching through paper documents to find needed information. Laserfiche also has built in workflows that directs each document to the next approver or to the correct file, as appropriate. This solution has saved CCS storage costs and man-hours.
