The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was signed into law on July 22, 2014. WIOA is designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy. In response to this new workforce legislation, the Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS), established a new focus that would prioritize community outreach and economic business development. As a part of this new direction and focus, there was a renewed commitment put into place to reach out to the local business community to collaborate and partner in the placement and education of our priority populations. These priority populations include: low income, basic skills deficient, homeless, disabled, foster youth, justice involved and Veteran’s.This renewed outreach has allowed for expanded partnerships and resources across the entire County. WDACS has continued to develop these partnerships and to look for ways to strengthen the business community partners who employ our participants throughout the County. This expansion of services includes providing highly effective training programs and job placement services for these businesses in the community.
