About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2011

The Los Angeles County Surveyor Program provides and innovative and timely delivery of survey and map information to the public. Immediate notification of Tract and parcel Map Recordation is now available to constituents and land developers via twitter. The centralized website aggregates data from various systems and utilizes .NET, GIS, ESRI, Google maps, and Document Management technologies. In addition to presenting the information on a centralized website, a Social network Application (SNAP) was developed in-house to enable followers of the “@LACoSurveyor” twitter account to receive daily updates on tract and parcel map recordation throughout Los Angeles County. Using social media, the need for phone calls or travel to the Los Angeles County Public Works Department’s headquarters is virtually eliminated. Additional benefits include: reduction in time to research data; lessened strain on the environment by eliminating travel to Public Works headquarters public counter; documents are available 24/7; and potential reduction in staffing through attrition as a result of less customers calling or visiting the public counter.
