Spot Check officers deal directly with referred juveniles on a one-on-one basis, providing counsel, comfort, and mentoring, as a well as bringing the authoritative law enforcement component to the program. Juveniles are provided the unit cell phone number to be used any time a youth requires assistance including, at times, when officers are off duty. Officers monitor school attendance and perform patrols during school times to ensure these juveniles stay in school for the full day. In addition to mentoring the juveniles, the officers offer counsel, comfort, and guidance to the parents and/or guardians who often feel like they are losing control.
