The County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents and visitors by protecting public health. The San Bernardino County Mosquito and Vector Control Program (SBCMVCP) is the program designated to enforce the State of California Health and Safety Code and San Bernardino County Code relating to vector-borne disease and nuisance pests within its jurisdiction. Mosquito-borne diseases are some of the most significant public health risks globally. Population growth, increased number of individuals traveling around the world, and urbanization have increased the risks of mosquito-borne diseases being transmitted globally. SBCMVCP created the Invasive Aedes Surveillance Program (IASP) to address invasive mosquitoes that could not be trapped efficiently using traditional methods intended for native species such as Culex mosquitoes. The IASP was needed to accurately assess these mosquitoes presence. This program allowed the SBCMVCP to articulate and address this public health risk and subsequently secure and allocate needed resources.
