Year: 2020

In 2019, Leon County’s Office of Sustainability developed an Integrated Sustainability Action Plan (ISAP) to integrate sustainability initiatives throughout the County organization. The ISAP provides 18 goals and 91 specific action items to reach measurable and achievable goals related to energy, water, waste, transportation, and other topics. The ISAP builds on the successes of Leon County’s 2008 Climate Action Plan, which set a goal to reduce County greenhouse gas emissions 20% by 2017 — a goal the County surpassed in 2015. As we look towards our community’s future, the ISAP sets an even greater and more ambitious goal of reducing the County’s greenhouse gas emissions (GFG) by another 30% by 2030. Achieving this goal will require innovation, increased efficiencies, and continued citizen input. While the ISAP primarily provides guidance to the County’s internal operations, the plan also serves to inform the public about the County’s efforts, including the promotion of sustainability throughout the community by way of outreach, education, and organizational partnerships. The guiding philosophy of developing the ISAP was the establishment of goals and action items that are measurable, actionable, and achievable with the goal of enhancing our community’s environmental, economic and social resilience by promoting adoption of sustainability practices within County government and the community at large.
