About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

In 2000, the County of San Diego initiated Project Clean Water, a regional collaborative effort to increase stakeholder participation in local water management issues through various means such as technical advisory committees, annual conferences, and a regional website. In 2005, the Department of Water Resources updated the California Water Plan to establish Integrated Regional Water Management planning throughout the State. In partnership with the City of San Diego and the San Diego County Water Authority, the County completed a San Diego Integrated Regional Water Management Plan under the Integrated Regional Water Management Program. This first-ever Plan builds on the County’s PCW commitments and provides a formal framework for regionally coordinating water supply, water quality, and watershed/environmental stewardship issues. Moreover, it brings existing local efforts into conformance with the vision of the State Water Plan. Implementation of the Plan will guide the region in continuing to address priority water management issues and in furthering the region’s goals for more sustainable water resources.
