Macomb County Community Services Agency’s Senior Nutrition Program assists senior citizens in meeting their nutritional and social needs through several programs. A gap was identified in the liquid meal program offered to frail home-bound senior citizens. Prior to implementing a new delivery program, participants in the liquid meal program had to have a caregiver or family member pick up the liquid meals during business hours from MCCSA’s administration office. This barrier limited the number of people who were able to participate in the program and MCCSA was unable to reach all of the senior citizens who needed the liquid meals. Through a partnership with United Way for Southeastern Michigan and the Ford Motor Company Fund, MCCSA was able to increase the number of people served and the liquid meals provided through the use of a donated vehicle to deliver liquid meals to all participants. The implementation of liquid meal deliveries has allowed MCCSA to help more people meet their nutritional needs.
