About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2016

The purpose of this program is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Chesterfield County Utility Construction Inspectors through the introduction of mobile-computing technology. It is the responsibility of the inspector to make sure that any construction pertaining to a county utility project is performed in accordance with a set of specifications. Inspectors will have multiple, active construction projects that require them to be present on each job site. Some sites require multiple visits during the same day. In order to perform their job, the inspector requires certain pieces of data that would normally require the inspector to make several trips from the field, back to the office and then back to the job site, thus limiting the amount of time for the inspection. By equipping each inspector with a tablet computer and providing wireless access back to the county’s network, the inspectors have access to any data that might be necessary for them to complete their job. The elimination of the unnecessary driving allows the inspectors to spend more time observing each project and insuring the contractors are performing their jobs in accordance with the county’s specification.
