With the latest trend in technological enhancements, many local governmental agencies are seeking ways to reduce cost, improve productivity, and provide quality customer service to the public. Within the Clark County Recorder’s Office, there are official documents which were recorded that dates back to the early 1900’s. In response, Clark County initiated it's Digital Reel program. The purpose of the program was to provide a software and service solution combined with retrieval software, to scan and convert microfilm rolls and microfiche that would enable customers to retrieve electronic digital images. BMI Imaging, upon receiving the film from the Recorder’s Office, scanned the Marriage Indices, Deeds, Official Record and Grantor Grantee microfilm from (estimated) 1909 to 1986 (see attached spreadsheet) to Digital Reel™. Film was shipped to the BMI Imaging location where the film was inspected for condition, anomalies noted, and any necessary repairs made to the film. The project has saved both County Staff as well as the public time while searching the Digital Reel Electronic images on a computer rather than using analog microfilm files on a reader printer. The Implementation of Digital Reel has reduced the need for large and bulky microfilm readers and printers in the Recorder’s Office.
