The housing Blueprint reflects the philosophy of the Fairfax county Board of Supervisors that the affordable housing need spans a continuum ranging from the homeless to the workforce. To ensure that limited resources were aligned to address this wide continuum of need, the Board developed a plan or blueprint. Developed in 2010, the Blueprint has four goals: 1) to end homelessness in ten years; 2) to provide affordable housing options to those with special needs; 3) to reduce the waiting lists for affordable housing by half in 10 years; and 4) to produce workforce housing sufficient to accommodate projected growth. The Blueprint was created through a collaborative process involving the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCHRA), Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB), the Office to prevent and End Homelessness (OEPH), area non-profits, citizen advisory groups, and housing advocates. To meet the Blueprint’s goals, specific measurable metrics were developed, detailing how many households will be served and identifying the resources that will be utilized to meet these households’ needs in the upcoming fiscal year.
