Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector, Albert Uresti, set out to accomplish a seemingly impossible task: Create an affordable, easy to use, and automatic 10-Month Payment Plan that did not require an application form or the use of a computer to enroll. The 10-Month Payment Plan was designed to alleviate the burden of large tax payments for citizens and families on a fixed income and those most in need. Uresti also envisioned a plan that was so easy to use that by simply selecting the payment option desired on a tax statement and sending in a check for that amount, the citizen would be automatically enrolled. After months of intense research and programming, Bexar County did what most called impossible and introduced the “Only” 10-Month Payment Plan in the State of Texas! The Plan, lauded by the taxpayers and the media, has received numerous accolades and awards, including the “2016 Best Practices Award” from the Texas Association of Counties. Launched in October 2013, this revolutionary payment plan allows qualifying Senior Citizens, Disabled Citizens, and Disabled Veterans to pay their taxes in an easier and more manageable method, while remaining free from the burden of additional penalty and interest. Enrollment in the Plan has more than doubled since its inception and continues to grow annually.
