Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

Platte County is located north of Kansas City, Missouri along the Missouri River. In 2008, Platte County led the way and became one of the first jurisdictions to adopt a green Build program. Developed with the help of a citizens committee, consisting of home builders, utility representatives, environmental advocates, and many others, they passed the Platte County Green Build Ordinance. The Platte County Green Build Program is an incentive-based, voluntary program that uses the National Green Build Standard to determine compliance. Building permit rebates are given to permit holders after certain criteria and a minimum number of points earned related to energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and reduction in natural resource use. Their first Green Build home was certified in December 2009 and four other Green build homes are currently under construction.
