In June of 2016 the Auburn One-Stop Career Center closed their doors to the public. This provided an opportunity for Placer School for Adults to take over the lease and expand their career services for their students and the public. Placer County Employment Services, conveniently co-located in the complex, was approached by Placer School for Adults to discuss opportunities to collaborate on workshop development and delivery to the public. As a result, staff from both the school and the county worked on a plan to increase the number of workshops, and to leverage partnerships to meet the growing demand for career readiness services in the community. In January 2017, Placer School for Adults opened the doors of a new career center with the collaboration of Employment Services, the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and Golden Sierra Job Training with more than 25 pre-employment workshops offered to the public. The course series, called Get Hired!, provides free workshops geared to serve a diverse population including those who are unemployed, underemployed, re-entering the workforce or laid off. The workshops have helped job seekers prepare for and find work including those with gaps in employment, disabilities, criminal records, limited transportation and living in shelters.
