The Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) Program is designed to provide employees and citizens a confidential means for reporting suspected wrongdoing involving fraud, waste, and abuse of County and School assets or resources.In 2020, Internal Audit significantly revised the program and increased FWA advertisement during Fraud Awareness Week to increase hotline awareness and fraud education as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Advertisement mediums included electronic billboards, daily social media posts, emails to school staff, students, and their families, and a County Board member Op-ed in a local newspaper. During the year, our office updated internal policies and procedures, increased calls received volume 60%, investigations completed 700%, and issued investigative results to management which included 20 recommendations for process improvement. Our updated website provides additional fraud resources to employees and the community.
