About the Program

Category: Children and Youth (Best in Category)

Year: 2011

The Youth Summit is a yearly gathering of current and former foster youth, community family and youth agency executives and staff, county governmental officials, and children and family Services (CFS) Independent Living Program staff or identify, discuss and make recommendations on the issues, concerns, challenges and opportunities that exist for children placed in the foster care system. Originally the Foster Youth Summit was organized and run by adults with some former foster youth participating in the event. Beginning in 2009, however, the youth assumed key leadership roles and positions in the planning and execution of the event. Their leadership has made constructive changes in program development and content which are more relevant to the needs for current San Bernardino County foster youth.
