Category: Health (Best in Category)

Year: 2013

Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) Environmental Health Services Unit (EHS) is responsible for the oversight and regulation of over 4600 food service facilities. In order to meet this challenge, each inspection is to be completed with a fair, consistent and, thorough approach. To accomplish this goal, a detailed and comprehensive training program has been developed. This training program, led by a team of four (4) field sanitarians and one (1) supervisor, has been evaluated and standardized by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). , It is an important measure in ensuring that OCHD meets essential components of the Minimum Program Requirements (MPRs) for the Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Program. In addition to the requirements of the state’s training standard, OCHD has incorporated detailed training components in various other programs, such as plumbing, plan review, and customer relations, exceeding the state’s minimum expectations. Through this standardized and detailed approach, OCHD’s training staff has ensured that the unit’s food service inspection team conveys a clear and consistent approach in food safety. This approach has also paved the way for the unit’s success in meeting and exceeding all food program MPRs, as defined by MDARD.
