Year: 2020

Recognizing the need for an accessible worksite wellness training and with an intention to enhance the level of participation, Maricopa County’s Healthy Arizona Worksites Program (HAWP) developed an on-line curriculum for a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to worksite wellness. The HAWP 101 On-line training allows free access to employers anytime, anywhere. With a mission to improve the well-being of the workforce, the program is administered by Department of Public Health in partnership with the Arizona Department of Health Services. Previously, employers were offered live, face to face 5-hour trainings throughout regional areas. In addition, the program has provided support, tools, and resources to design, implement, and evaluate worksite wellness initiatives. A gap in services was identified stemming from the barriers created by the large service area which stretches into remote, rural communities. There were the challenges of traveling and the time away from work to attend the 5-hour live training. To more fully meet the needs of employers, an online training was developed. The interactive training includes the model approach basics, applicable definitions, examples, embedded video, narration, and scored quiz interactions. The virtual training is broken into 4 modules, each module is no longer than 30 minutes each.
