Baltimore County Department of Aging (BCDA) developed a year long "Focus on Safety" for older adults to highlight the importance of keeping safe, whether it be related to home and personal, financial, technology, sports, travel, or health safety. Throughout the year, individuals were offered the opportunity to participate in a range of informative features, including festivals, publications and seminars, all geared towards raising awareness of safety and County services. Inter-generational community festivals were held with speakers, demonstrations, screenings, entertainment and displays. Almost 2,000 participants learned about topics such as elderly abuse, domestic violence, residential security, fall prevention, financial scams, food, mediation strategies and holidays. Further, a publication was created for distribution on safety. The "Focus on Safety" initiative could not have been accomplished without the successful partnerships with County agencies, private companies and non-profits.
