In response to the State of Michigan’s notable film incentive program, Wayne County created a Film Initiative that is a focal source for incentive information, location details and resources for the film industry. The initiative is a significant component of the County’s overall economic development strategy and it has already made a marked financial impact on the region. Although it has only been in existence for 18 months, the Film Initiative has spurred a strategy that will make Wayne County a sought-out location for the film industry. To that end, the Film Initiative has created and implemented a website, www.reeelwc.com, which is a resource tool to attract the industry. Moreover, officials have also developed promotional and site information and have coordinated training sessions for Wayne County residents to understand and learn about the film industry. Additionally, the Initiative has worked closely with the Economic Development arm of Wayne County to coordinate additional financial incentives for the film industry. In 2008, approximately 25 projects were filmed in Wayne County. The following year in 2009, the film industry brought $219 million to the state.
