Current estimates indicate that the population of feral hogs may exceed 500,000 in Florida. Unfortunately, feral hogs have proven to be difficult to manage. The UF/IFAS St. Lucie County Cooperative Extension conducted the Feral Hog Management Extension Program designed to (1) review the effectiveness of feral hog management practices currently being employed by land managers, (2) develop effective adaptive management technique recommendations, (3) teach these techniques to clientele groups and (4) conduct innovative activities designed reduce feral hog populations. Results of this program indicate that land managers continue to adopt effective adaptive management techniques. Clientele have increased knowledge of effective feral hog adaptive management techniques and innovative activities have been successfully conducted to reduce feral hog populations.
