Pickleball anyone? When one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation set down roots at an underutilized park site in need of major TLC, some amazing things begin to happen. After the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Department (LA County Parks) added pickleball to its summer programming in 2019, it became immediately apparent that the fastest growing sport in the country was enjoying similar popularity in the County. It also became clear that pickleball was not just a summer craze; the community would continue to play the sport year-round. Seeking a permanent home for the emerging pickleball program, LA County Parks worked with the Board of Supervisors and the community to design and fund an improvement project that would enhance existing tennis courts at Farnsworth Park in unincorporated Altadena.
