When it comes to our mission, the Recreation side of Parks & Rec is easy. We build and maintain fields, host athletic programs--folks are happy. It is the Parks aspect where we face our greatest challenge-- living up to our responsibility as Stewards. Beyond maintaining and caring for our green spaces, we seek to convey their importance and place in our environment—that Parks are fundamental to our survival, physically and spiritually. Henry David Thoreau wrote in Walden, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
