About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

As an innovative program, the Emergency Worker and Dependant Shelter is designed to assist he county in responding as quickly as possible to a declared local emergency. This is a unique shelter, as it will provide a safe, temporary place for the county’s designated emergency workers and their dependants to stay, allowing emergency workers to focus on their job duties. Primarily the departments of License and Inspection, Planning and parks and Recreation staff the shelter. As these departments’ job duties are unrelated to shelter operations, they had to perform extensive research and planning to determine operational, management, and customer requirements. A policies and procedures manual was created to document roles and responsibilities for all staff and to provide forms and checklists for accountability. The manual is used to conduct staff trainings, drills, and debriefs and is updated as needed for continuous procedure and process improvement.
