About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2011

Hundreds of people in local, state and federal governmental agencies, as well as private corporations, are now trained to respond effectively during public health emergencies, after trainings hosted by Wayne County and certified buy both FEMA and the CDC. These training sessions exemplify the County’s innovative and aggressive campaign to educate and certify people for emergency response from a diverse cross-section of the public and private sectors. At the core of these trainings is the Incident Command Structure (ICE), which is FEMA’s system for managing events and emergencies using a uniform command hierarchy and vocabulary that can be utilized by everyday citizens and elite responders alike. In addition, these trainings are significantly bolstering the preparedness of Southeast Michigan leadership by strengthening partnerships and inter-organizational collaboration that protects the health and safety of the County’s citizens.
