The Office of Emergency Services (OES) has developed and implemented a local program to utilize trained Probation Offices to augment OES staff in the County’s Emergency operations Center during emergencies. This provides the County with a cadre of highly killed public safety professionals whose role does not dramatically change in an emergency. In addition, being professional law enforcement officers, they are all trained in the Incident Command System (ICS), as well as being accustomed to making decisions and functioning effectively under stressful conditions. The use of Probation Officers to assist In the activation of the County’s EOC has allowed for the staffing for all critical Section Chief and Branch Coordinator positions during emergencies from initial activation to final deactivation. In reduces the County’s reliance on mutual aid, while strengthening its ability to manage large, complex emergencies and disasters.
