Miami-Dade County (“County”) Internal Services Department (ISD) Facilities and Infrastructure Management Division (FIMD) is responsible for providing a wide range of internal support services for the ongoing operation of County government to include the management of over six million square feet of County-owned and leased buildings. On March 12, 2020, the County declared a State of Local Emergency due to the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Following this order, new safety and health measures needed to be implemented throughout the County to protect its residents and employees. ISD successfully developed and implemented the Emergency Clean-Up, Decontamination and Restoration Services Program to ensure the safe and sustainable operations of ISD-managed buildings. ISD implemented a multi-faceted approach to completing the program’s objectives: create specifications to address the spread of the virus at its facilities and effectively provide services following the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s regulations and protocols; establish a prequalified pool of vendors to perform enhanced preventative cleaning and/or positive diagnosis responses; monitor the projects; create a tenant and vendor communication system; establish a standard scope of work and procedures; and reduce the transmission of the virus with preventative measures. The implementation of this program resulted in safe operations at County-managed facilities and created new partnerships with Miami-Dade County businesses.
