Year: 2021

In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management, and the Office Enterprise Technology collaborated to collect and distribute Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) efficiently for the healthcare facilities that needed it most. The monumental undertaking began with the establishment of a logistics team that spans several county departments, brings in employees from other county departments, and successfully utilizes the Arizona National Guard. The process of distribution begins at https://ppe.maricopa.gov/, where hospitals, medical providers, schools, charities, and other businesses and organizations that are in need of PPE can easily submit requests to Maricopa County. From here, the logistics section uses three warehouses, an incident management system, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and a volunteer network to make sure the PPE arrives at the locations where it is most needed. The applications and processes that were quickly developed and deployed in response to this need will be used for future emergency and public health needs. Many have already been used in other areas, including vaccination distribution.
