About the Program

Category: Human Services (Best in Category)

Year: 2021

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when the Preschool Services Department (PSD) had to suspend in-person classes, PSD quickly assembled community partners to implement a virtual learning model to overcome the obstacles of COVID 19 as they impacted educational services. PSD teachers were able to provide virtual classrooms, and layered instruction delivery with several online platforms to include Kahn Academy Kids, Footsteps2Brilliance, and Learning Genie. PSD collaborated with Sunrise Foods to bolster the existing Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to provide produce and other food items to address food insecurity. With funding provided by the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH), provided no-contact mental health services through Cal Baptist University. The virtual program and the partnerships catapulted Preschool Services to the forefront of virtual services, which resulted in other counties and programs reaching out for support and guidance.
