The Crime Analysis System (CAS) is a case management application capturing 170,000 manual offense incident reports written by police officers or detectives. The application captures intelligence, investigative, administrative, and statistical case information. This data is used by Command Staff via their computerized statistics (CompStat) assessment process to manage the deployment of law enforcement resources to handle criminal hot spots, trends, and predictive analyticS including robberies, auto thefts, burglaries, etc. The crime statistical information captured in the application is tabulated and submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement bi-annually to be used as part of the National Crime Trends and Indicators for Part One Crimes and Arrests. CAS is the centralized repository of crime data for the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). The crime analysts, investigators, and support staff merge their information entries to facilitate crime analysis functions and CompStat reporting. Business intelligence crime reports are prepared from the central repository to create citizen neighborhood crime watch reports and crime dashboards that are published to monitor trends. The application streamlines the information work flow of the business process, thus facilitating the sharing of critical law enforcement case information seamlessly and efficiently across the organization.
