The creation of BioHealth Innovation, Inc., a 501(C)3 public-private partnership, was stimulated by Montgomery County, Maryland in order to advance the growth of the biohealth regional innovation cluster in Central Maryland. Through its premier Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, DreamIt Accelerator Incubator, entrepreneurial support programs, and efforts to provide a soft landing place for international life sciences companies, BHI is spurring: the creation of new companies with viable commercial drug therapies, diagnostic tools and related medical products; the connecting of the vast array of private, governmental and academic research and development institutions that exist in the region, which previously operated in somewhat of a vacuum; the successful transfer of innovative technologies being developed in traditional governmental and academic research institutions into private sector products that have a demand in the commercial marketplace; and the rebranding of the Central Maryland region as a hub for cutting-edge life sciences advancements.
