Montgomery County is one of the largest counties in the state of Maryland. With a budget approaching $6 billion and a population of over 1 million residents, the County has many priorities that the County Executive (CE) is advancing. The challenge of keeping track of very high priority projects and communicating progress information and important messages in an efficient manner makes it difficult to keep track of all these projects without automation. The County Executive requested the Department of Technology Services Employee Productivity Solutions (DTS-EPS) team to develop a simple method by which direct communications between the County Executive, his staff, and Project Managers (PMs) associated with key projects can be managed. Commercial products for managing projects were deemed too complex for this effort. Consequently, and within a very short period of time (1-month), DTS-EPS created and implemented a feature filled application designed specifically for these tracking activities. The CE Dashboard, in operation for 9 months as of February, 2020, currently contains 40 key projects for the County Executive (CE), the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), their deputies and staff to monitor. The CE Dashboard provides key project information and handles important communications associated with them in an intuitive and efficient manner.
