With more than 4.9 million voters, the Los Angele County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) is the most diverse and largest election jurisdiction in the United States. In 2014 several agencies that serve the senior population inquired about available election services for their constituents. In response to their request, RR/CC’s Community and Voter Outreach Section decided to do an outreach project that aims to work with assisted living and other in-care or senior facilities to ensure that their clients have access to information and available voting options. Residents at convalescent homes, rehabilitation and assisted living locations and other similar care facilities with their physical impairments are often lack of information and have hard time to exercise their right to register and vote. Many of the residents are unaware of the laws that protect them as voters and do not know they can continue to be active participants in the election process. Those that are aware of their rights often lack access to available information and need assistance in casting their votes. The purpose of this plan is to create a cohesive service/communication between RR/CC, voters and convalescent/assisted living facility administers/operators.
