Community gardens make important contributions to all facets of sustainability and provide nutrition, physical activity, community engagement, safety, and economic vitality for neighborhoods and their residents. In 2016, Leon County initiated a series of programmatic changes to its Community Garden Program to support new and existing community gardens on County property and throughout the community. Leon Countyâs Office of Sustainability has taken an iterative approach to the Countyâs Community Garden Program, staying up-to-date with evolving needs in the community as well as emerging trends in other communities. Recognizing that the needs of community gardens have changed since County initially adopted its Community Garden program, the Sustainability Office has led efforts to identify opportunities for program enhancements to stay ahead of the curve of changing trends and community needs and continues to provide the community with the highest level of service. In coordination with community partners and stakeholders, the Sustainability Office has worked diligently to implement a series of programmatic changes to enhance the success of the garden program throughout the community.
