Year: 2015

In response to the major 2013 Flood, Boulder County created a one-stop-shop to serve flood impacted residents. The Flood Recovery Center and the Flood Rebuilding and Permit Information Center (FRPIC) have been essential is helping residents on their path to recovery. The goal of these centers was to house all subject matter experts in one location to aid in collaboration and communication as well as make it easier for residents to get the answers they need. Boulder County’s vision statement says, “As trusted stewards of Boulder County’s future, we provide the best in public service.” To uphold this vision statement, the staff was flexible and innovative in their response to the 2013 Flood. Many of the flood recovery projects that the county has taken on require incredibly intertwined and overlapping cooperation between departments. Many of these departments had never partnered on a project before, and the staff members are tightly interwoven. Investing in the future of our residents and the future of our community as a whole has helped to foster a greater trust and respect for Boulder County government. Each staff member in the Flood Recovery Center has made a special effort to get to know flood survivors personally and work as hard as possible to help residents become whole again.
