Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2016

As technology changes, so does the way we must do business. Recognizing the challenges the old way of doing business presented to business owners, the Frederick County (Virginia) Commissioner of the Revenue’s Business Division has taken numerous steps to provide a comprehensive and user-friendly website, providing business owners with access to vital information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Local governments have had to become more sophisticated and use technology to enable taxpayers access to government information. Specifically, Frederick County has leveraged technology to modernize annual business license renewal and equipment/furnishings filing processes to make it convenient and easy for businesses while simultaneously saving the County money and staff time. In 2011, our Senior Programmer began significantly expanding the customized online programs for business owners which securely transmit their online submissions to a linked folder with staff viewing ability and immediate secure storage in our Laserfiche repository. As a result of this expansion of services, businesses now have access to twenty-one online functions. Additionally, thirty-three printable options are also available for those not wishing to utilize the online functionality. All services are supported by online instructions and informational documents. As technology continues to present new options, the Frederick County Commissioner of the Revenue’s office will continue to modify and update their online business presence in an effort to provide seamless service to all entities.
