About the Program

Category: Civic Education and Public Information (Best in Category)

Year: 2020

The County of San Diego’s Planning and Development Services (PDS) provides code compliance services to residents in the unincorporated communities of San Diego County to ensure safe, sustainable communities and the preservation of natural resources. PDS developed the Code Compliance Outreach Program (CCOP) to improve service delivery and create a better understanding of the services PDS offers each unique community within the unincorporated area of San Diego County. As part of the program, code compliance staff attend community planning group meetings, community sponsor group meetings, design review board meetings and other community groups’ monthly meetings to discuss priorities for compliance efforts, how to submit complaints (24/7 hotline, web, email) and to create a better understanding of PDS’s services. As part of this process, staff also provides monthly updates for each community’s priority cases and collaborates with them to increase education within the community to discourage future violations. To date, the feedback PDS has received about the CCOP program has been largely positive, and it has helped prioritize efforts to serve local communities better.
