Clean Up San Juan was designed and developed by the San Juan County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department and implemented with the help of the San Juan County Solid Waste Department and the San Juan County Communications Authority, as well as other local agencies, to address the issue of illegal dumping on public lands in San Juan County-New Mexico.The program consists of:1) A telephone application that citizens can download onto their mobile devices for reporting illegal dumpsites.2) A web map application for reviewing the sites and dispatching the detainee cleanup crew.3) A field application for use by GPS and navigation cleanup crews.4) An online operations dashboard that maintains transparency of program progress with the citizens of San Juan County; and5) A volunteer cleanup program.Clean Up San Juan was developed, and the first prototype was launched in May of 2018. An improved product was released in May of 2019. To date, Clean Up San Juan has over 550 downloads from the Google Play and Apple App stores. Over 430 illegal dumping sites have been reported, and over 130,000 pounds of trash have been removed from our public lands.
