Year: 2021

Effective January 2018, San Bernardino County Superior Court began accepting requests for interview and detention warrants in electronic format. Children and Family Services (CFS) implemented an Electronic Warrant (E-Warrant) process, as the initial pilot of the electronic warrant system for San Bernardino County. The pilot proved successful and led to a countywide implementation for CFS and law enforcement agencies throughout the San Bernardino County. With this process, the CFS social workers (SW) use electronic means to request Interview or Detention warrants from Superior Court, 24 hours a day/seven days a week in order to conduct a child abuse or neglect investigation or take protective custody of a child. The purpose of this program is to provide an effective electronic means for processing needed Interview and Detention warrants. It provides the judges with easier access to review and respond to warrant requests quickly and efficiently during and after regular business hours. This process also maintains a complete record of approved and rejected warrants, making it more efficient for SWs to obtain warrants quickly and respond to questions judges may have regarding the warrant request.
