About the Program

Category: Children and Youth (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) model used by the County of San Diego Child Welfare Services (CWS) utilizes a qualitative information gathering approach through case reviews and special projects to help identify positive practice trends and identify key areas for improvement. Positive practice trends are then spread throughout the child welfare system and improvements made in areas identified as challenges in order to improve outcomes for families. CQI employs a team approach that relies on shared responsibility for data and outcomes at all levels of staff. CQI increases transparency by partnering with families, youth and other stakeholders to explore ways to improve our system and their feedback is used as another means to evaluate our work. The CQI model supports Live Well San Diego, the County of San Diego’s vision of healthy, safe and thriving communities, by identifying areas of improvement needed to strengthen families so that every child grows up safe and nurtured.
