During the summer of 2006, the team at South Phoenix Healthy Start project designed a pilot community education campaign promoting infant and toddler safety around hyperthermia awareness and prevention. Presentation materials, educational brochures, and car stickers were designed and produced by Healthy Start staff and began distribution of the health information to the South Phoenix and Maryvale communities. The project was named The CBIB Campaign (Check Baby in Backseat). South Phoenix Healthy Start is a Maricopa County Department of Public Health project working to improve healthy pregnancies, births, and infants while leveling health, social service, and economic disparities that can lead to higher incidents of compromised birth outcomes and higher rates of infant mortality. South Phoenix Healthy Start sponsors a monthly community based consortium of residents, providers, organization and agency representatives, and business and government leaders that provide leadership to the project and assist in promoting prenatal health messaging within the target communities. Distribution of materials was conducted among the consortia partners and various community events.
